Trained in North East England, Chris
has been throwing pots for over 12 years. Created in his studio in Morpeth, his contemporary designs are exhibited in galleries throughout Northumberland; and sold around the world.
Whilst all his ceramics are functional, it is their form that defines the style. His unique designs are 100% hand made; some complex forms taking over eight hours of piercing (carving) before firing
Inspiration for the ceramic designs are taken from nature and cultural artefacts from around the world. These timeless and elegant designs are created by the interaction of positive and negative spaces that complement the natural colour of the ceramic. His vessels explore the dialogue between form and positive & negative space; often departing from function to play with the concepts of fragility, repeating patterns, light and shadow.
All his designs are wheel thrown using the high-quality stoneware. The final firing to 1260 deg C. provides a hard ceramic finish. To ensure that these collectable ceramics remain in the best condition, unglazed designs are treated with a waterproof nano-sealant, which is food safe and protects the surface from marks and stains.
